NORTHWEST -- Close to 3,500 of Washington's Brightest Young Things swarmed the downtown block that houses the uber-modern Newseum on Friday night for a "holiday party to start all holiday parties."

And start things with a bang, BYT most certainly did!

While ticketholders were forced to endure painfully cold weather while patiently waiting to gain admission to the 250,000-squarefoot megacomplex serving as the night's host venue, once inside, a bevy of interactive treats greeted them.

On the ground floor, DJ AutoRock held court over the expansive lobby area-turned-dancehall. Interactive photo booths from onomonoMEDIA lined the center of the room allowing ticketholders to take home printed memories of the unforgettable evening -- all the while an endless loop of some of BYT's favorite photos from 2010 were displayed on the museum's primary 60-foot (yes, you read that correctly) LCD monitor.

Cash bars had been thoughtfully scattered throughout the Newseum's six cavernous floors, including a backlit series of min-saloons erected within each of the venue's three elevators! Wolfgang Puck Catering also stood ready with tables full of holiday treats for those looking to purchase a late night snack.

Perhaps one of the night's biggest attractions, however, was the blacked-out "silent disco room" specially created by vitaminwater for the evening. Sporting headphones and complimentary neon strings, guests were provided the opportunity to jam out (in near silence and darkness) to the musical musings of DJ Smudge, in what can only be described as a colorful display of creativity!

Sure, there was also a book signing, a six-foot tall inflatable African American Santa, and, most importantly, full access to the Newseum's award-winning exhibits, but the decorative mistletoe was also rumored to have provided the most, er, "interactive" experience for some naughty guests! This is a BYT party after all...

And thus, in three short hours, the gauntlet was thrown down for all future 2010 holiday parties. Will anything else measure up? D.C. residents should be so lucky!
