NORTHWEST -- Washington Redskins running back
Clinton Portis was but one of the VIP guests in the audience on Friday night at the very first "Beyond Words" fashion and art show.
A team effort put on by artist and philanthropist
Lisa Jones,
The Lollipop Kids Foundation, and The Art Gallery at
The Washington Design Center, the evening culminated in a runway show featuring the latest designs from Studio D-Maxsi Designs'
Afua Sam, Tsyndyma's
Tsyndyma Kroujilov, Chez Kevito's
Titi Wreh, and
Andrew Nowell's eponymous label.
Celebrated fashion aficionado
James Cornwell was charged with styling the participating volunteer models, which included many well-recognized D.C. faces like
Lindsay Kin,
Rachel Demita,
Nadia Christian,
Gloria D' Bat, and
Donna Guinn Kaufman.
Prior to the fashion showcase, guests were free to wander about the gallery while sipping specialty cocktails and sampling from a complimentary selection of small bites. Original works of art from
WVSA's ARTiculate Gallery were on display throughout the entire evening, in addition to pieces from Lisa's own
Shattered Glass II Collection.
Proceeds from both ticket sales and silent auction items that night benefited The Lollipop Kids Foundation, whose mission is to combat the social stigmas and financial burdens incurred by families with children with disabilities, as well as to provide general emotional support.
