MCLEAN, Va. -- Idolized by thousands and worth millions, most players of the Washington Redskins have carte blanche over how and where to spend their New Year's Eve.

It's therefore telling that a dozen or so both current and retired players chose to spend Friday night's festivities in the grand ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner hosting a special fundraising event benefiting the NU|Hope Orphanage in Zimbabwe.

Organized by Kedric and Christal Golston, Chris and Sharena Wilson, and Mike and Enisha Williams, the 'Midnight Masquerade Ball' was rooted in a Venetian carnival theme and boasted everything from vaudevillian hoop dancers to chocolate fountains (four of them no less) to prime rib and turkey carving stations to the requisite end-of-evening balloon drop!

Joining them throughout the evening were linebacker Lorenzo Alexander, guard Derrick Dockery, cornerback Ade Jimoh, Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback Darrell Green, Super Bowl champion wide receiver Gary Clark, and retired linebacker Ravin Caldwell and their respective friends and families.

Organized by the Hilaron Foundation (on which both Kedric and Darrell are board members), the non-profit's goal for the evening was quite simply to help improve the lives of some of the estimated 1.6 million orphans currently living in Zimbabwe today.

A variety of generous supporters also turned-out on New Year's Eve to help Hilaron achieve its goal; gifting silent auction items, providing cash contributions, and donating some of the evening's entertainment.

Dr. Alex Naini's Aesthetic Dental Spa, David Yurman jewelry, Betsey Johnson of Georgetown, and Golston Real Estate were just a handful of the ball's sponsors.

Defensive end Chris Wilson even took to the stage for a lengthy singing performance -- all in the name of charity!

While the Redskins might not have made it to the playoffs this season, it's pretty clear that they nevertheless have the hearts of champions!
