Red carpet? Check. Photographers (guilty as charged) and video cameras? Check. Bustling bar doling out bottles of Ciroc and colorful cocktails? Check. Packed venue full of smartly dressed guests? Double-check.
And so the stage was set on Saturday night at Teatro Goldoni for
New Orleans Saints All-Pro Safety Darren Sharper's D.C. victory party celebrating his team's triumph over the Indianapolis Colts on February 7th.
Arriving just a few fashionably late minutes after midnight, Sharper was both preceded and followed down the red carpet by NFL players from around the country. Fellow Saints teammates
Reggie Bush, Marques Colston, Roman Harper, Usama Young, Tracy Porter, Pierre Thomas, and Will Smith were all in attendance as was
Javon Walker of the Oakland Raiders,
Visanthe Shiancoe and Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings,
James Farrior of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and
Jamie Sharper, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks.
Some players, like Sharper, are D.C. natives. Others were simply supportive friends. There was even a (female) player from the Lingerie Football League in attendance, along with a bevy of sports agents, managers, and friends.
With the 2010 NFL Draft having ended just a few hours earlier in the day, the night even served as the first taste of "professional celebrity" for the handful of draft picks, such as newly-inducted San Francisco 49er
Navorro Bowman, who also turned out for the party.
Not to be upstaged by the well-dressed District crowd who had gathered to celebrate with Sharper, all of the professional athletes who entered the award-winning restaurant-turned-lounge on Saturday were equally decked out in sharp suits, designer jeans, and gleaming accessories (that's a $10,000+ Breitling watch being sported by Bowman).
With training camp only a few weeks out, a well-earned District party was indeed called for and a good time was had by all.
Congratulations Darren and the Saints!
