DUPONT CIRCLE -- With some 30+ official and unofficial (okay, mostly unofficial) balls on the immediate horizon in honor of
President Barack Obama's second inauguration, many Washingtonians will find themselves donning their finest black tie apparel next weekend in order to fete the occasion.

However, therein lies a problem for many of the city's gentlemen, most of whom are likely somewhat out of practice in the peculiar nuances of tying the bow tie demanded by proper black tie attire etiquette.
Certainly no strangers to the modern necktie, the District's dudes simply aren't provided with many opportunities to breakout their bow ties these days. Hence the lack of familiarity.
Not to worry though Washington.

Recognizing the potential sartorial conundrum before the city, the classic American clothier hosted a special bow tie primer, for the city's press corps and fashion bloggers on Thursday night, in order to help provide some guidance.
Under the expert tutelage of Brooks Brothers historian
Kelly Nickel inside the retailer's Dupont Circle location, guests were instructed on the proper way to tie a bow tie while noshing on passed Presidential hors d'oeuvres.
No doubt fueled by the liquid courage that was being mixed-up by
A BAR beverage manager
Brennan Adams or the sweet high provided by the platters of stylishly decorated
Georgetown Cupcakes, a handful of attendees even tried their bow tying prowess on-camera.
The end result of such playful haberdashery? Problem solved for most. And for everyone else, Brooks Brothers sells pre-tied bow ties too, of course.
